Nightlife in Leiria

Nightlife in Leiria

Leiria is a city of students and that is why it also has rich nightlife. Most of the nightlife is concentrated in a small area near the centre of the city and you could say that the square Praça Francisco Rodrigues Lobo is the centre of everything in terms of nightlife:

In a small area you have all kinds of places available: simple cafes, pubs, bars and discos so you have basically something for everyone.

“I’m getting old!”

I’ve been feeling this for a long time. I know that I’m only 25 years old but for me the whole partying thing is long gone. I used to do it when I was around my 20’s but never actually enjoy it. I just went with the flow with my friends and student colleagues and usually got hammered and a the latest felt bad in the mornings. Something had to change…

I’m not a teetotaler nowadays but I am much more sensible with my drinking and I’ve become more of a person that enjoys a nice chat with couple of friends in a nice pub where you can also take a beer or two. Some might say it is a boring way to do things but I don’t care. I am what I am and no-one is forced to like me or the ways I do things but I’m not going to change just to please someone.

So for me quiet pubs where you can actually hear people talking is the ideal place to be. I am also going to move out of my comfort zone to provide you some information about those more nightclub type of places. The places I have visited is up to next…

Well this is my local and I usually start my evenings here. It’s a nice and quiet place full of locals during the evenings. Two big screens are ideal for watching football and you have also a reading corner and an electronic darts available.

Pricing is near to average I think a cup of coffee costs you 50 cents and a small (20cl) pint is 80 cents and a big one is 2,50€. Some foreign beers also available and for example (25cl) Heineken costs 1,20€. They also serve you snacks such as burgers and French loafs and different kind of drinks like hot chocolates and teas.

The customer service is good I think. I am now able to order things in Portuguese but it wasn’t a problem when I was only able to do it in English.

Mulligan’s was one of the places I definitely wanted to visit as we also have these Irish type of pubs in Finland and really enjoy visiting places like this.

The first visit left a great impression for me as they have really been able to capture the atmosphere there. The place is cozy and also has wide range of nice beers available. I really like Guinness and this was something I absolutely had to have here. This place also has a small stage available for live music.

Prizing is once again quite close to the average maybe a bit higher even as there are lots of imported beers. It doesn’t matter that much for me though as I’m not visiting places to drink that much.

This place is also easy to find as it is located really close to the river bed.

Anubis bar

Anubis is one of the places to go in terms of nightlife. It’s located close to the city centre across the street from Sé de Leiria church. In Anubis they have one big dance floor, bar encounter and a small area at the rear where some people are actually able to sit. The place’s DJ is located almost in the middle of the dance floor.

Bar Anubis holds theme nights such as solidarity nights on Tuesdays when they donate 100 grams of food to charity for every customer that gets inside the bar during the night. This bar has no entrance fee. Pricing level is close to the average I think.

The main con is that the place isn’t fresh at all: people are allowed to smoke inside so be prepared for clothes that smell like smoke and also in my case: headache. This ruling is about to change in the future in Portugal and that is a nice thing definitely.

This Facebook-group seems to be really active. It has information about events in Leiria so it is worth joining this group if you’re interested in entering the local nightlife and getting the information about events.

This post will be updated after I visit more places.
